WHITBY, Ont. - Durham Regional Police are urging parents to check their children's Halloween candy after a needle was found in a Tootsie Roll in Whitby, Ontario.

A two-inch needle had been inserted into the candy and was partly visible.

The candy wrapper appeared to be tampered with and the parent found the needle.

No one was injured.

Last Halloween, police in that region reported five instances of pills found inside Smarties boxes given out as trick-or-treating loot.
