Up for grabs in the draw, which will take place Sept. 29, are nine single-unit lots priced between $89,000 and $111,000. As well, six duplex lots are available for around $170,000.
The deadline for interested property owners to submit their names, as well as indicate the lots they want in their order of preference, is Sept. 28.
On Sept. 29 at city hall, officials will draw 15 names. Those whose names are drawn will be able to buy the lots at the quoted prices.
Mayor Bev Buckway and city planners announced details of the first-phase lottery Friday morning. Buckway said she expects keen interest in Takhini North because the neighbourhood is highly desirable.
"We've got a five-minute walk to downtown Whitehorse, our Yukon College is one of our neighbours just up the street, and of course we've got some of the wonderful area that surrounds here with some of the trails, and we're also very close to our major transportation network," Buckway said Friday.
Buckway added that existing Takhini residents who are familiar with Takhini North "know that's up where the sun shines most of the time. So it's just fabulous."
Senior city planner Mike Ellis said new development in Takhini North will "bring new life and new vitality" into the entire Takhini subdivision.
"It means the investment of millions of both public and private dollars; new kids for Takhini Elementary school, new friends and neighbours moving in down the street; and more residents living right in the centre of the city of Whitehorse," Ellis said.
City officials say Takhini residents helped plan the neighbourhood development, in order to incorporate design features unique to Whitehorse, such as roundabouts and shared streets. A large number of existing trees were kept in the development.
More properties in Takhini North will be put up for second lottery later this fall, with an even larger number of properties being developed for release next year.
