The Alberta College of Physicians and Surgeons has cleared Dr. John O'Connor of the last of four complaints laid by Health Canada during his tenure as a fly-in doctor in Fort Chipewyan.
In 2006, O'Connor was accused by Health Canada of causing "undue panic" after he began to raise the red flag about the high incidence of rare cancers he saw in Fort Chipewyan.
He left in frustration and has been practising in Nova Scotia for a couple of years. But now that the Health Canada allegations have been dealt with, he said he plans to return to medicine in Alberta.
"We can move ahead and using all the resources we've got, including agencies that are accountable for the health of people in communities," O'Connor told CBC News.
We can, as one, finally focus and help the community of Fort Chipewyan that I've grown to know and love."
