MONTREAL (CBC) - A Montreal woman who was severely beaten at the Snowdon Metro station says she is pleased her assailant will have to spend time in prison.

Peter Niedzielski pleaded guilty to four assault charges in his violent attack on Marcia Langleib and four other people in September 2005.

Langleib, who was waiting on the platform, was struck in the face. Niedzielski threw her down and stomped on her head so hard she was in a coma for two months and suffered permanent disfigurement and brain damage.

In April, Niedzielski was sentenced to two years to be served in the community.

But the Crown appealed, and on Friday the Quebec Court of Appeal overturned the sentence, ordering him to spend that time behind bars.

Prosecutor Louis Miville-Deschênes had argued Niedzielski should be sentenced to four years behind bars.

The defence lawyer argued Niedzielski has since undergone therapy to control his anger and has stopped drinking and using drugs factors that should be taken into consideration in his sentencing.

But Langleib said she will wear the marks of the attack for the rest of her life.

"Look what he did," she said. "I could have died. I am happy he's going. But in my opinion, I think he should be going to jail for at least a few years."

Niedzielski has until Monday to turn himself in to a federal penitentiary.
